U9A - 5 star Hill destroy Wadham

Buckhurst Hill A 5 - 1 Wadham (Echo League)

Jason McMullen, 7th February 2010

‘The Hill’ hosted Wadham at Roding Lane, this was the first league match played since November last year due to the adverse weather conditions in recent months.  The weather was grey and cold with the Roding Lane pitch muddy and soft under foot.

The management felt confident of a result as last time the two teams played in The Hill had been the stronger team despite losing by two late goals.  The Hill had developed as a team and were much stronger following recent coaching efforts from Wilson, King and McMullen.

Manager Wilson had a full squad to pick from and wanted to continue with the 2-3-1 formation that had worked well in recent matches. The starting team included goalkeeper Long, Fox and King at left and right defence, Tebbutt left midfield, Captain Wilson in central midfield, Allen on the right midfield and Haidar playing as the lone striker.  Koczan, Park and Gueli were the options from the subs bench.

The Hill started strongly with midfield getting the edge with early tackles and passes, notably Wilson was starting attacks passing to Haidar who was cutting straight through the middle of Wadham’s defence or Tebbutt who was penetrating down the left on a number of occasions.

Allen broke down the right flank and crossed into the box, Wadham failed to clear and Haidar fired a right foot strike, which the keeper got his hands too but could not keep out for 1-0.  The Hill grew in confidence from this and further chances were created when Allen shot from the edge of the area fired narrowly wide and then Tebbutt bull dozing run saw him beat two defenders down the left, he cut the ball back for Wilson who’s shot whistled just over the bar with the keeper stranded.

King and Tebbutt combined well on the left to close down any attacks from Wadham and counter with their own with Tebbutt having an inspired half with his attacks down the left.

Long, Fox and King looked solid in defence and showed confidence on the ball as Fox side stepped an attacker and played a superb forward ball for the pacey Allen to run onto but he was fouled and stopped in his tracks.  Haidar’s resulting free kick was a peach as he curled over the wall and into the net for 2-0.

Minutes later, just in case you missed it - Haidar added a third goal with replica of the same free kick following good work by Tebbutt who earned the free kick. 3-0 at half time.

Second half saw the introduction of Park on for King in defence, Gueli on for Tebbutt in left midfield and Koczan for Allen on right midfield.  The Hill were on a roll as Wilson & Fox were dictating the play and Koczan and Gueli showed good energy in midfield as we continued to push forward.  Allen came back on as Haidar went off to applause and a well earned rest.

The Hill was in total control with the team looking dangerous every time they attacked, Allen earned a free kick as he was thwarted on the edge of box. Captain Wilson stepped up and curled the ball round the wall and into the net for 4-0 and a fantastic set piece goal.

As the game entered the closing stages Wadham kept going and trying to create an opportunity pushing The Hill back.  Wadham were almost undone with some wonderful counter attacking football when Allen, Koczan and later Tebbutt were denied chances.  Inevitability the icing on the cake was Wilson’s cleared header from our box found Allen who knocked the ball past the last defender for a one on one race to goal and superb blasted finish for 5-0.

Wadham got a consolation goal when the worked the ball into the box and Wadham sub and former BHFC trailist Bridges finished from close range for 5-1 and that was the final score.

The management were delighted with the win, you could see the boys were pleased with their victory.  Let’s hope we can continue the good form as we play away at Hutton next Sunday.

MOM.

Haidar - for his hat trick and two great free kicks.

Fox -  for his superb defending, great awareness and reading of the game.

Tebbutt - for his all action midfield performance, both defending and attacking.
