Buckhurst Hill vs Milwall Albion 29th March 2015 Kick off 10am

The last game of the season is here, and it’s at home against Millwall Albion. After Buckhurst Hill lost to them 2 weeks ago on the away fixture, the boys will be hoping for a different out come. With several of the Buckhurst Hill boys away on school trips, again we see no subs on the Buckhurst Hill bench. The management team of Salmon and Stevens must be tearing their hair out. With so few options since Christmas due to injuries, its been vary rare since Christmas that they have had the option to bring on a fresh pair of legs who can turn a game in our favor.

Millwall Albion kick off

3Mins Close: Albion create the first chance and Rawlings is called into action as a deflected shot is saved down low.

4 Mins Goal 1-0: A free kick is floated in by Salmon and with on rushing strikers and the defense back peddling the keeper is flat footed and a whole host of Buckhurst Hill players can claim it, so we will leave it to the dubious goal panel to sort it out.

20Mins Close: Albion with a chance, a strike from the left side of the area flashes through the area and Rawlings puts its round the post for a corner.

24Mins Penalty to Albion: A floated free kick into the area is met by Rawlings who is to have adjudged to have fouled the Albion striker. The penalty is struck low and firm towards Rawlings right hand post who is diving to that side. Rawlings seems to have it covered as the ball whistles past the out side of the post.

A scrappy half of football draws to a close. Buckhurst Hill need to find their passing boots as possession is all to often gifted to the opposition, and if they keep doing it they will get punished as Albion get more and more into the game.

HT 1-0

Buckhurst Hill Kick off

8 Mins Goal 1-1: It been coming, a loose pass in midfield gift possession to Albion who get lucky with a deflected through pass that splits the Buckhurst Hill defence. Rawlings comes rushing out and meets the ball and striker at the same time, the ball breaks to the striker who calmly finishes to level up the game.

12Mins Goal 2-1: Lord is cynically chopped down and the freekick is curled in by Laycock the first header is saved but the rebound is headed home by Spencer.

19Mins Close for Buckhurst Hill: Lord races clear and cuts the ball across the area and Spencer sees his effort hit the crossbar deflect down but not over the line and away.

20Mins Goal 2-2: Against the run of play Albion score, Buckhurst Hill again give the ball away and midfield are ahead of the ball and cant get back as Albion break quickly. With numbers over they work space and eventually a shot is lobbed over Rawlings and drops into the net.

22Mins Goal 2-3: When it’s not your day, it’s not your day. A hopeful punt/clearance is caught up in the strong wind and is carried over Rawlings as he back peddles, and it creeps under the crossbar and in.

31Mins Goal 2-4: Buckhurst Hill change formation as they go 3 at the back, as they push Salmon up to midfield to get the game leveler. Albion break quick and with one pass split the back 3. The rapid striker is on to it in a flash and Rawlings hesitates in the gusting wind before committing to clear, and it’s enough for the striker to win the footrace to the ball and he scores.

The final whistle blows and the Buckhurst Hill players look dejected, the whole season seemed so different only a few weeks ago. It has been a classic case of a tale of two halves, and what might have been. Totally dominant up to Christmas break beating all the top teams away from home, and playing some great football. Then the Christmas break came and went, the flowing football disappeared and injuries added up and fixture changes occurred. The boys couldn’t get any fluency to their play or consistent performances, and ultimately 3rd Place in the league is a fair reflection on the second half of the season performances. Time will tell if its good enough to get promoted, for a 3rd season in a row.

Result FT 2-4
